Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh

Irene Kaufmann Building
The Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh (JCC) has been a part of the Pittsburgh community for over 100 years. With three buildings, two locations and a summer camp, the JCC is one  client with diverse needs that requires a property manager that can think out of the box. Oxford Development Company has provided property, facility and construction management services for the JCC since 2005. This includes the Irene Kaufmann and Robinson buildings in Squirrel Hill section of Pittsburgh, the Henry Kaufmann Building in the South Hills of Pittsburgh and the Henry Kaufmann Family Recreation Park in Monroeville, PA. As property and facilities manager, Oxford oversees the day-to-day operations of all buildings and the recreational park. From building systems and maintenance of office and athletic spaces to grounds keeping, Oxford manages the needs of the JCC that keep  each facility operating at maximum levels. As construction manager, Oxford just completed a major renovation of the Early Childhood Development Department in the Irene Kaufmann Building. Oxford managed the project which was completed in 8 weeks, providing  project management services and assisting with the selection of carpets, furniture and paint colors. In 2012, Oxford completed a major renovation for the building’s second floor restrooms and is now preparing for the renovation of locker rooms for the Henry Kaufmann Building.

About the JCC

The JCC began its existence in 1895 as the Columbiana School and Settlement, founded by the Council of Jewish Women in Pittsburgh’s Hill District. In 1909 it became the Irene Kaufmann Settlement after Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kaufmann donated a building, equipment and money as a memorial to their daughter, Irene. Over the years, the Irene Kaufmann Settlement merged with other community agencies to create the Young Men and Women’s Hebrew Association-Irene Kaufmann Centers that later became the JCC. The JCC’s mission is to enrich the western Pennsylvania region by creating an environment that strengthens the physical, intellectual and spiritual well-being of our individuals and families.
